Data protection policy
What we do with the information you give us, and what you can ask us to do about it.
Who is responsible
Kuwait Insurance House is the party responsible for the information described here. We are an insurance brokerage licensed by the Insurance Regulatory Unit of the State of Kuwait under licence number 2020/3169. Questions about this policy go to info@kih.com.kw.
What we collect
To place insurance we need to know what is being insured and who is being covered. Depending on the line of business that can include your name and contact details, your civil identification, details of your business, property values and locations, vehicle details, claims history, and — for medical and life cover — health information about the people being insured. If you only send an enquiry through this website, we receive your name, company, email, phone number and whatever you tell us about the risk, and nothing else.
Why we hold it
To answer your enquiry, to approach insurers on your instruction and present your risk to them accurately, to administer the policy once it is placed, to help you when you claim, and to keep the records that insurance brokerage regulation in Kuwait requires us to keep. We do not use your information to make automated decisions about you.
Health and other sensitive information
Medical and life cover cannot be placed without health information. We collect only what the insurer needs to underwrite the risk, we pass it only to the insurers you have asked us to approach, and access inside the firm is limited to the people handling your account. Our handling of this material sits under the information security management system we hold ISO/IEC 27001:2022 for.
Who we share it with
Insurers and reinsurers we approach on your instruction, including insurers outside Kuwait where your risk requires it. Loss adjusters and surveyors appointed on a claim. The Insurance Regulatory Unit and other authorities where the law requires disclosure. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing.
How long we keep it
For the life of the policy and for as long afterwards as Kuwaiti law and our regulatory obligations require, which is longer than the policy period because claims can be brought after a policy has expired. Enquiries that do not become policies are kept only while the enquiry is live.
Keeping it secure
Access is limited to staff who need it for your account, and is logged. Our controls are governed by the information security management system described above, which is audited externally rather than self-declared.
What you can ask us to do
Write to info@kih.com.kw and you can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct anything that is wrong, ask for a copy, or ask us to delete it. Where we are required by law or by our regulator to keep a record, we will tell you that rather than delete it quietly. We will respond within 30 days.
Changes
If this policy changes we will publish the new version here. The version on this page is the one that applies.
